Frequently Asked Questions

Who are your partners in Gaza?

We are working with Gaza Life Power, who provide us with the materials and parts.

We are also working with "Damur for Community Development" in the West Bank, under the Anna Lindh Foundation- there we are in contact with Seba's sister, Mariam Abu-Daqqa. Damur is involved in Community mobilization for this project.

Since February 2024, we began working with another partner, SAWA 164 Hotline, to receive more information about the immediate needs of the people in Mawasi-Rafah.

This project is based on community action and initiative - community representatives and volunteers from Gaza are in charge of the construction and assembly of the units.

How do you transfer the money?

At the moment, it is extremely difficult to transfer money into Gaza; every couple of weeks we have to find new and creative ways to do so. We usually transfer the donations through a European bank account to Gaza Life Power’s account in Bank of Palestine, and then receive a receipt that confirms the acceptance of the donations.

How long have you been active in this initiative?

The construction of the toilets was initiated by community activists in Al-Mawasi, but lacked funding. We launched our fund-raising initiative on 30.12.23, and since then have been able to assist with the purchasing of materials and the construction of toilets with/without a shower, as well as tents.

How many people use these toilets and showers?

At the moment, we are focusing on Mawasi-Rafah (in the southern part of Gaza) – where there are currently approximately 200,000 internally displaced persons. We estimate that each toilet (with/without a shower), serves approximately 30 persons, the bigger tents can accommodate 25 people each, and the smaller ones can each accommodate up to 10 persons (one family).

How did you meet?

We all met for the first time in October 2023, in an online dialogue group of Palestinians and Israelis living abroad, organized by Wahat al-Salam/Neve Shalom

How do I know my money is used for the right purpose?

We are in direct contact with community representatives on the ground, who update us on their progress and send us photos. We also keep a meticulous lod that records all donations and transfers to Gaza, including the receipts from Gaza Life Power.

What if I don’t have a PayPal account?

For logistic and organizational reasons, we are currently working with PayPal. However, if you are encountering any difficulties, or do not own a PayPal account, please contact us at toilets.for.camp@gmail.com, and we’ll find a solution together.

Are you a political initiative?

We believe in every person’s right to live in dignity and in peace, and to have their basic needs met - food, water, hygiene, education, respect, security and safety. We feel these are not necessarily political but most and foremost humanistic values, and we hold them dear.
