Dear Community,

Throughout August, Clean Shelter continued to respond to urgent needs in Gaza through shelter repairs, sanitation, and improving living conditions for displaced families. While our long-term work continues - including providing drinking water to around 60,000 people, supplying daily-use water to camps without access, and managing and improving camps hosting 160 families - we also responded to urgent needs through a range of targeted interventions this month..

50 Additional Families Return Home

This month, we repaired 50 homes, helping families return to safer, more livable spaces. A key achievement was the rehabilitation of the Al-Ahwal family building in northern Gaza, where we repaired the damaged sewage network and fully restored the building’s apartments to address severe wall damage. This project benefited 11 families at a total cost of $35,650, providing them with safe sanitation and secure housing.

Shelter Improvement 

We built two accessible bathrooms for people with special needs, improving safety, comfort, and independence. As summer temperatures rose, we also launched a tent-elevation pilot in Al-Mawasi, Khan Yunis, benefiting 25 families with members with special needs at a total cost of $16,400. The intervention replaces low poles with custom high metal frames and adds an extra tarpaulin layer, helping to reduce heat and improve ventilation inside the tents, particularly for elderly residents and people with chronic health conditions or mobility impairments.

Waste Management  

We also continued our waste removal project in the camps, focusing on the Al-Mawasi area in western Khan Yunis, specifically the zone between Street 5 and Al-Istabl Street, extending 300 meters westward. The initiative targeted seven displacement camps, directly benefiting 1,800 families. By clearing waste and improving sanitation, we are helping reduce health risks and create a cleaner, safer environment for displaced families living there.

Looking Ahead

Throughout September, we will continue expanding our work in home repairs, water provision, and sanitation infrastructure to support displaced families and improve living conditions across Gaza. The tent-elevation pilot in Al-Mawasi, Khan Yunis, received positive feedback, with 100% of beneficiaries confirming that it improved their quality of life as a result of better air circulation. We will continue providing these services to the most vulnerable people as needed and will keep you informed.
