Dear community,

As we continue to navigate one of the most critical humanitarian crises in Gaza’s recent history, your solidarity is helping us bring a tangible impact where it’s needed most. Here’s what we’ve accomplished over the past two months, and what’s ahead.

Milestones in Water Access

New desalination unit installed in Al-Mawasi: We successfully launched a high-capacity (8 m³/hr) desalination unit in Al-Mawasi, now providing clean drinking water to approx. 5000 families daily. Micro-grid water network activated: We built a decentralized water distribution network using HDPE pipelines and 5,000-liter tanks, connecting 4 nearby displacement camps. This marks a major step in our mission to ensure sustainable, daily water access for displaced families.

Clean Shelter’s broader Water Access Program aims to deliver daily safe drinking water to over 100,000 displaced people in Al-Mawasi through a decentralized, low-risk, and community-based model. Our on-the-ground team has conducted well surveys in the area and identified key locations for the installation of desalination units and piped water distribution networks.

Zomi Protection Camp: Safety & Learning

In May, Clean Shelter completed and opened the Zomi Shelter Centre, now home to 95 of the most vulnerable displaced families, including women-led households and individuals with special needs. More than just a shelter, Zomi provides safety, community support, and essential services, including food, clean water, and a welcoming space for healing and connection.

The camp is managed by a community committee of women residents who also lead daily educational and recreational activities for children, and coordinate psychosocial support initiatives for women.

We’re Fundraising For

Installation of a second desalination unit at the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) site near Al-Aqsa University. This unit is expected to serve an additional 25,000 displaced people. Partial funding has been secured; however, an additional €50,000 is still needed.

Development of micro-grid infrastructure: To connect water tank outlets across 5 to 8 displacement camps, enabling reliable and equitable distribution of clean water.

Rehabilitation of a privately owned solar-powered desalination site: This initiative will rapidly extend water access to Zomi Protection Camp and its surrounding communities. The estimated cost is €42,000.

Ongoing support for the Zomi protection camp: Covering monthly expenses, including maintenance, food, and essential needs for the residents, estimated at €10,000 per month.

Your support helps us respond faster, expand further, and ensure dignity for more people.

Welcome Hala Abu Assi: New General Coordinator in Gaza

We are thrilled to welcome Hala Abu Assi as the General Coordinator for Clean Shelter in Gaza. Hala brings an educational background in chemistry, along with intensive training in program planning, financial management, and implementation. Hala has quickly become the go-to person for mobilizing and engaging with displaced communities and community-actors. We are honored to have her lead our on-ground efforts, and we look forward to the impact she will continue to make.

With gratitude,

The Clean Shelter Team.
